My 2018 Goals

I cannot believe it is 2018 –  I definitely say this every year. But seriously, this year has been a blur and I am not sure why because I have barely done anything all year… Happy New Year everyone! 

I have been trying to get excited and motivated for whatever 2018 is going to bring but it is slightly difficult to do when I have exams just around the corner. It is only day 3 of January and I am already stressed. I will not dwell on this for too long because I know it’ll be over in a few weeks and I can get back to university and start preparing for tutorials, reviews, May exams and internships/placements for the summer. After writing that down, that also sounds bloomin’ stressful. 

There are many things I am looking forward to this year as Matthew and I will shortly be going up to London to visit my mum’s side of the family as well as getting the time to actually explore London – I really want to take him to Hamleys! We’ll also be going down to Cornwall a few times this year which makes me very happy because I miss my family a lot and getting to spend time with them is wonderful. I have booked us to go see Ed Sheeran in June which I am very much looking forward to (it is my ‘completing first year of university’ treat). 

I don’t usually set a new years resolution at the start of the new year. Mainly because I never stick to them and I do feel you can start any sort of goal/commitment regardless of the time of year.  So I am just creating a few goals which I hope to get started on and hopefully fulfil during 2018. 

My Goals for 2018:

   1.Sort out my mental health
This is obviously an important one because your mentality affects every single thing you do. If I am having a bad day and feel just kinda down about myself then I will just lose all of that energy which means I get NOTHING done. And of course that starts the cycle of stressing about the things I have not accomplished for the day and rolls over to the next day and the next… So this year I am going to ‘sort’ myself out by exercising, eating a lot healthier, staying away from pop drinks (bane of my life) and trying to keep a positive mindset. 

   2. Gain more Confidence
This goal and my first go hand-in-hand really because they massively overlap for me personally. I have always struggled with self esteem and body confidence and it is something I have been working on since I was a young teenager but it is difficult. To be able to get to that place of feeling good about yourself is so important, but it needs to stay and be with me always. I am definitely trying to have a THIS IS PAIGE year,  where I would love to push myself and gain more confidence in my uni work, blogging, social media posts, interacting, body and mind confidence. This goal is probably the one I will struggle the most because it is easy to say “YES I will put on this dress and look hella cute” but I just cannot seem to keep that mentality, before I have even walked out the door I have changed into my normal baggy clothes with skinny jeans. Because this is a massive goal I am setting some mini goals within this one so it doesn’t seem so daunting. 

  1.  Stick to a skin care routine (day & night) 
  2. Learn more about make up and what benefits me 
  3. Wear my clothes and don’t second guess it 
    ➣ I have this idea of getting Matthew to photograph all my outfits so I can look back and try to be like “You look good girl. You do you”
  4. Participate more in tutorials 
  5. Start volunteering over the summer 
  6. Apply for internships
  7. Focus more on my mindset rather than obsessing over my looks 
  8. Stop comparing myself to others 

   3. Work Hard at University
At the beginning of every semester I tell myself to work really hard but that is easier said that done. As mentioned above, if I am having an off day then university is not a priority to me which is bad I know. But feeling utterly drained and trying to focus on readings, tutorial prep etc. is so difficult. I really love my course and it does suck when I do not have the motivation to study and it really frustrates me as I do not want to waste those moments. Also, I do not feel I have taken all of the opportunities that the university offers and this year I am going to try lots of things; for example I will go the freshers and society fair to get freebies (yay) and sign up for at least 1 society. I will definitely engage with my tutor more, especially when my grades come back over the next month to discuss my progress and what I could do to improve that. Overall I am aiming for a high 2:1 for this year as I managed to achieve that during my foundation year. 

  4. Get a Dentist
Very embarrassing but I have not been registered at a dentist since 2015 because I am terrified of dentists. The main reason I need to get a dentist is to obviously have a check up and make sure my teeth are fine, but I would love to get my braces put back on if possible. I had braces for two years but by the end of it I developed this weird lock jaw so I couldn’t yawn, open my mouth wide etc. without it locking and oh my goodness it really hurts. So this caused issues with my retainers because I could not get them in my mouth. I have managed to get my jaw syringed and I have had  no issues since so hopefully the dentist will approve me to start again. Fingers crossed!

  5.Our Home & Pets
Matthew and I have lived in this house now for just over a year and we are hoping to move into a different house within the area and we’re looking to achieve this by the end of this year – which is incredibly exciting! We have also talked about getting a dog since we first started dating and if we do move into our proper home then I do think there will be a massively possibility of that happening at the end of this year or the start of 2019. 

  6. Blog More
I started blogging in September 2017 and attempted blogmas after publishing 5-7 posts over the 3 months… so that was very difficult. I definitely loved blogmas but I did not feel happy posting other content which has nothing to do with Christmas. This year I am definitely going to take it more seriously by getting more posts organised, photos ready beforehand and exploring different topics as well as styles of writing. I do not feel I have found my niche yet and I am not sure whether my style of writing makes sense or comes across odd. I get into my head a lot when writing because I instantly feel like I am typing an essay like question for my blog – sounds kinda silly. 

  7. Enjoy 2018
As much as I loved 2017 I do not feel I enjoyed it as much as I would of liked to. There was a lot of stress because of the foundation year, starting year one of university again, awaiting news about family which kinda made me forgot about all the fun memories that 2017 brought. I want to be a lot more creative and fun this year. There are loads of things I say to Matthew and my family that I would love to start but never do, or give up within a day. These are some of the things I would love to try out this year:

  • Aerial Class 
  • Learning different types of braiding for my hair
  • Calligraphy 
  • Keeping a bullet journal 
  • Volunteering 
  • The splits 
  • A biology course 
  • Photography

    You have a good list there to work on for this year & some really exciting things to look forward too.
    Enjoy making memories & spending precious time with you’re family.
    May you do a post at the end of 2018 saying how confident you feel… Do you girl!!! (And enjoy the journey 😉)

      Thank you! I am definitely trying to create more opportunities and stop taking things for granted. I will probably do an update halfway into the year as well as the end to see how much I have done 🙂

    You have great insight for your age! I’m with you on the mental health goal.. I do the same thing. I just got over a spurt of depression from last week.

    I also need a dentist too, having lots of tooth pain lately 😦

      Thank you very much. Its probably my biggest goal to tackle and it is more likely a few years than a 2018 goal. But got to start somewhere.

      Sorry to hear that. Hope you’re feeling better & have access to support from your family and friends.

      I am hoping to write more on my experiences of mental health in the upcoming months.

      I haven’t even began looking for a dentist yet 😣 Hope you find one soon though!
